FAQS

Common questions about therapy for ADHD & Autism

  • You might be! Diagnosing neurodivergence (e.g. Autism/ADHD) is a complex process involving diagnostic testing, observation, interviewing the client, and time getting to know you. Whether you are neurodivergent or not, therapy will focus on you and your indivdual needs.

  • Absolutely! EMDR has been effective for neurotypical and neurodivergent people. We may make some adjustments here and there, but overall, EMDR can be helpful for most people.

  • Whether one or both partners are neurodivergent, therapy starts with a thorough assessment to tease out strengths, challenges, and individual needs. We then discuss neurodivergence and how that shows up for the individual(s) and in the relationship. From there, we work on improving communication, setting healthy boundaries, and finding ways to get back to enjoying each other’s company.

  • There are several evidence based, skills building therapy modalities that I have found are often effective for neurodivergent clients. The two primary modalities I draw from are Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). Both involve teaching you practical skills you can use every day to manage distressing emotions, communicate with others, and cope with racing thoughts/anxiety.
